FAQ [frequently asked questions]

Who are we?

Walter Gay started TRAC in 1995. Based in Aurora, Oregon, TRAC helps negotiate and consult to hundreds of travel agency owners in the United States and Canada.

What do we do?

TRAC offers professional Global Distribution System (GDS) contract negotiation analysis, advice and expertise. TRAC manages the process of the negotiation until it is completed. WE NEGOTIATE FOR YOU! Once the negotiation is completed, we are retained by our customers throughout the life of their GDS contract, addressing any contractual issues that may arise during the agreement and tracking production to ensure your goals are attained.

Why use a consultant to negotiate?

Utilizing the skill of an experienced contract negotiator allows the management of a travel company to concentrate on their business. We negotiate GDS contracts every day, versus once every three to five years.

Is there an advantage to using a consultant over a travel industry attorney?

Most travel industry attorneys have extensive contractual experience, but few (if any), have first-hand experience working for a GDS company and their affiliated airline. This experience gives TRAC an advantage that most travel industry attorneys do not possess.

What if we are close to completing a negotiation and want your advice?

TRAC never allows a client to hire us until we have done a complete contract/proposal analysis to determine HOW/IF we may be of service. If we determine that it is not worth the expenditure of the agency to retain us, we will advise that and work from an hourly consulting basis if needed. If we determine that hiring TRAC would greatly benefit an agency in negotiations, then the standard retainer and commission structure would apply.

How is TRAC compensated?

TRAC receives a retainer fee along with a percentage of what we negotiate. With a percentage of what is negotiated, we have a vested interested in getting the highest revenue-type contract possible.

Why have we never heard of TRAC before?

Our clients usually don't refer to our company name Travel Automation Consultants or our dba of TRAC.  Most clients and prospects are familiar with Walter Gay, the Founder and President of the company.

What if we hire your company to represent us and you do not get us a better contract?

Since 1995, TRAC has bettered every contract that we have agreed to negotiate. We strive everyday for 100% satisfaction.

What can your consulting company offer that I cannot do myself?

We negotiate GDS contracts every day. By maintaining excellent relationships with each vendor and knowing what their most competitive offers are, we are able to negotiate on your behalf from experience and first-hand knowledge of the most aggressive offers in today's marketplace.

Are you available to come to my consortium/agency group meeting?

Yes. TRAC is willing to travel anywhere to help agency owners that are either currently negotiating or are planning to negotiate their next GDS contract.
